Save the Date – 2017 Bonham Centre Awards Gala
The annual BCAG Awards, presented by the Mark S. Bonham Centre for Sexual Diversity Studies at the University of Toronto, honours individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of human rights as they relate to sexual diversity issues.  The gala cocktail event will once again be held at Hart House at the University of Toronto, on Wednesday April 26th, 2017 from 6:00 pm to 9:00 pm.
In 2017 the gala is honouring the two-spirit indigenous community in Canada.  The honourees are:
  • Kent Monkman – acclaimed Canadian artist of Cree ancestry ;
  • Candy Palmater – a Mi’kmaw woman from the wilds of northern New Brunswick. She is an activist, actor, writer, international speaker, and award-winning TV and radio personality, and has executive produced three films on Mi’kmaw culture;
  • Lee Maracle – award winning Sto:Loh nation author, academic, editor, and ally for the two spirited community.
  • Theodore (Teddy) Syrette –  an outspoken, Indigenous, Queer, First Nation person of Batchewana First Nation of the Ojibway peoples, currently working working as a Freelance 2 Spirit/Queer Indigenous Advocate and Artist consultant with a youth committee for the Provincial Advocates Office of Children and Youth.  Has worked with OPACY, Egale Canada Human Rights, the Canadian Centre of Gender and Sexuality Diversity, 4 Rs Youth Movement and Canadian Roots Exchange.
