masseyI am honoured to have been selected as the recipient of the 2016 Clarkson Laureateship in Public Service from Massey College at the University of Toronto.

The awarding of Clarkson Laureateships began in 2004 during the final year that Madam Clarkson, a Senior Fellow of the College, was Governor General of Canada. The award honours her many years of service to Canada and at the same time recognizes those members of its community who also contributed to the common good.

It is especially meaningful for me because of the high regard I have in the power of education to both change the world for the better and to engender tolerance, understanding, economic development, and peace across the rich diversity of society.  The award encourages me to work even more diligently for the various community organizations I am lucky to be a part of.

The Laureateship will be awarded at a special High Table on Friday, January 8th in the presence of the Massey College peers and friends. The evening somewhat echoes the ceremonies Madam Clarkson presided over for the Order of Canada when she was Governor General and she herself attends to present the award.
