It is with sincere sadness that I learned of the passing of a good friend, colleague and mentor in the economics profession.  Professor Chris Kobrak, fellow founder of the Canadian Business History Association and professor of the Wilson-Currie Chair in Canadian Business History at the Rotman School of Management, University of Toronto passed away recently while in Paris.  Chris will be remembered around the world for his great friendship, intellectual knowledge, and personal insights in the study of economic and business history.

Along with fellow professor Joe Martin, Chris had just completed the manuscript for a new book comparing the evolution of the Canadian and American financial systems, From Wall Street to Bay Street: The Origins and Evolution of American and Canadian Finance (University of Toronto Press).  We all look forward to the release of this book in the summer and  I am sure it will stand as a testament to the intellectual depth of Chris’ knowledge on the subject.  He was a true inspiration for myself and many others in the profession, and his presence will be greatly missed.
